@FukuyamaFrancis is wrong!

Who am I to take on Dr. Fukuyama? A bored American sailor.I read a recent interview with Dr. Fukuyama  (whom I respect – I have read every one of his books.) He tells of his concerns for the globalization movement and the rise of the mini-Trumps (his description) in Europe. He describes popuarism and nationalism as damaging the globalization movement.I think he has it wrong. (Whew.) The enemy of globalization is multiculturalism. Dr. Kissinger in “World Order” and Samuel Huntington in “Clash of Civilizations” suggest that it is religion and cultural identity that are the primary source of conflict in the modern world. Popularism and nationalism are not a reaction to global economic events. They are a reaction to being force fed by governments, the media, and “social justice warriors” the absurd idea that all cultures are equally valuable. Cultures that do not respect the rule of law; treat women as property; engage in female genital mutilation; “honor” killings; the pervasive surveil

American Politics

What a crazy time. As a temporary ex-pat in Sydney, Australia the locals ask me about President Trump, Russia, Obamagate (the allegation that President Obama had then candidate Trump s phone tapped (as was proven Obama did to a reporter,) allegations of sedition by former President Obama and his supporters etc. Since like them I have to depend on what imho, is a deeply flawed and partisan media, my answer is “who knows, we live in interesting times.” I feel the USA has become the first “banana republic” with a free press. Very weird. Given the focus on contacts with Russians I have stopped visiting “beautiful single Russian women who want to meet men” web sites. I hope this keeps me out of the news.#wiretap #obamagate #MAGA @Potus #resistance #seditionRoger sv Reboot +61 (0)476 768 335

Thunder

Those who follow know that most of the time we were in Tonga and American Samoa we were plagued with rain. We even frequently had morning showers in Savusavu. Since we arrived in Vuda point it has been very hot and sunny. What goes around comes around. Tonight we can hear thunder. Fair winds and following seas 🙂

Pago Pago – American Samoa

We have been here in Pago Pago for several days. Since the night of the wind storm with all the boats dragging we have kept an anchor watch on board pretty much all of the time. With four off us it has not been much of a problem, two on shore and two on board. There is really not all that much to see on shore. Most of our trips are shopping or provisioning.Last night Al and I went to Tisa s Barefoot Bar. It is the Trip Advisor #1 restaurant on the island. With the exception of one other table we were the only diners. This has been my experience in the Pacific, most places seem very empty. Perhaps the economy continues to reduce tourism. We had prawns and an outstanding filet of yellow fin tuna.At lunch we went to Emilio s. It was OK. I think it is #3.Btw, to give you some idea McDonalds is the #9 best restaurant according to Trip Advisor.Today there have been occasional showers. The forecast for the next few days is more of the same.Fair winds and following seas 🙂

Via Inmarsat:

We have been traveling down the South American coast both to minimize our time in the ITCZ (doldrums) and to avoid the Galapagos. We have now turned. We are now heading west (forever or 3170 nm) to the Marquesas. We are still 420 nm north of our goal. We will work our way south as we sail west. Fair winds and following seas 🙂 Please note your reply is limited to 160 Latin characters or approximately 135 for non-Latin characters. Sent via Inmarsat. The mobile satellite company
