Repel Borders

XO has a couple of voices. There is the I want attention meow. There is the I need food meow. There is the clean my box meow. And the always unpleasant I am about to puke noise.I was sitting in the salon at 3:30 am this morning when I heard one I have not heard in years. Hissing, screaming, spitting. Running up into the cockpit I found XO hissing at one of the local ferral cats. I don t know if it had gotten up on Reboot but it sure beat feet in retreat. We (the marina) were then subjected to 5 minutes of “take that you …; this is my boat noises.Fair winds and following seas  🙂

Rinse, No Wash

It has been raining for the past couple of days. Reboot is getting a great rinse. Unfortunately it needs a wash first.Fair winds and following seas  🙂

A mixed day

A couple of days ago I had major dental surgery. I have four holes in my jaw and about 16 stitches. I am living on otc pain medication. It is not a lot of fun.April 1 is (was, here in Australia) the end of my insurance hurricane exclusion. I can now sail north to Cairns and get positioned for the Sail 2 Indonesia rally. With the aftermath of Hurricane Debbie in my path I am not in a big hurry to leave*. I do, however, need to focus on all those nagging tasks to get Reboot ready. [Procrastination is my finest skill, apathy my middle name.]. Yesterday it was quiet at dawn. And not raining. A miracle! It was a good time to take the old jib down. It came down without a hitch. Of course I had it close hauled so it would fall on deck. Reboot said “lets go sailing” and took off! Fortunately I was still attached to the mooring. I was hesitant to raise the new jib alone even in light winds. With a couple of people it is much easier to get underway and then raise it rather than going crazy arou

Happy New Year

A quiet couple of days. I didn t make it to Sydney as planned. Ended up celebrating on the Brisbane River. Since it was a weekend I expected to see a lot of boats but it was surprisingly quiet. That is good because every boat that goes past wakes Reboot. An uncomfortable PITA.Fair winds and following seas 🙂

Wild night, easy day

For the past couple of days the anchorage in Fare (Huahine) has had a very strong current – likely 2+ knots and a beam wind. This is a very uncomfortable setup as the current holds Reboot at 90 degrees to the wind. All of the wind force is converted to heal. Last night the wind really picked up at at about 9 pm it all went to heck as the sky opened up with thunder and lightning (the way you love me is frightening). At about midnight it settled down to a steady downpour for the rest of the night.Morning came and it was still drizzling. Today was the weather window so we put on our bathing suits and hauled anchor. About 2 nm off the island the sun broke through and the remaining 20 nm to Raiatai was beautiful. We are anchored inside the reef. Winds are about 15 – 20 and the waves are about 1.5 feet. Not the greatest anchorage but far better than we have had for the past 3 days. Off to explore.Fair winds and following seas 🙂
