Garmin GLO

Bought a Garmin GLO as I needed a Bluetooth GPS. My major reason for picking Garmin over cheaper alternatives was my excellent experiences with them. Delivered to Florida.  Shipped to Malaysia. Doesn t work. Finally do a web search. GLO is not compatible with Windows 10. What? Not happy.   Fair winds and following seas:)

Garmin 5012 Multifunction Display

Got it sorted with Garmin Australia. Once they realized it was on the U.S. books it all came together. Shipped it off today for repair. After 1 hour of beautiful sunlight we are back to thunderstorms. Nice. Fair winds and following seas 🙂

Kudos to Garmin

My GPSMAP 2012 is back from Garmin service. While traveling from Norfolk to the BVI it started saying “holding” when turned on. Garmin told me that this meant it had lost its software load and I should reload the software from an SD card. The problem was that the SD card slot had rusted out. They said that the only solution was to return the unit to Garmin for service. Out of warranty service on a GPSMAP is a flat rate of (if memory serves me correctly of $899.) I was surprised and pleased when Garmin waved the charge. Apparently the inside was so corroded that they sent me a new unit. Kudos to them, what great customer service.Fair winds and following seas 🙂

Downloading Garmin Charts

Allow me to save you a lot of time. As we are about to pass thru the Panama Canal I wanted to purchase and download new charts for our 52×2 chart plotters. They download to SD cards. After 5 1/2 hours of frustration let me offer the following: You can not use the Chrome browser to find and download charts You can not use the Microsoft Edge browser to find and download charts You must use Internet Explorer (available in Windows 10 if you use the search function and search for Internet Explorer) You must have a Garmin account You must have registered your chart plotter in your Garmin account At this point you will actually be able to discover what charts you need, pay for them, and download them to a SD card on your computer. Fair winds and following seas 🙂
